Steps to Reducing Dating Violence

COMMUNICATE CLEARLY.  Let your partner know you will not tolerate any abuse.  Discuss sexual boundaries before a situation arises.

STAY IN CONTROL.  Don’t use alcohol or drugs.  Have your own way home in case you need it.  Always carry a cell phone or change to use a pay phone.

TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS.  Get to know a person before going out, or go out in a group.  If you have concerns about a potential date, listen to your gut instinct!

AVOID ISOLATED PLACES.  Stay away from places where you’ll be alone, especially until you get to know the person.

THINK TWICE BEFORE DATING A PERSON WHO:

  • PUTS DOWN OTHERS
  • USES ALCOHOL OR OTHER DRUGS IRRESPONSIBLY
  • HAS ANGRY OUTBURSTS
  • IS EXTREMELY JEALOUS
  • USES PHYSICAL FORCE
  • DRIVES RECKLESSLY OR DRINKS AND DRIVES
